AVIATION ACCIDENT PHOTOGRAPHS

Here is a collection of photographs from some notable aviation accidents and incidents. Be sure to check out extracts from the CVR (Cockpit Voice Recorder) to hear first hand pilot reaction when it is realized the flight is not transpiring as anticipated.

This is the definition of terror. In 1978, a PSA Boeing 727 collided with a single-engine Cessna 172 over San Diego. All aboard both airplanes perished.

British Airtours Boeing 737-200, Flight BAT28M. Manchester, England.

A engine burner can ruptured on the takeoff roll. Shrapnel punctured the wing fuel tank and created a fuel fire.

A nightmare for Airbus Industrie.

During a demonstration at a air show, the pilot lost control of this (as I recall) Airbus A319. This type features fly-by-wire flight controls…there is NO mechanical link between the pilot's control stick and the flight controls, just an electrical link.

The last moments of an American Airlines Douglas DC-10 at Chicago's O'Hare Airport. The airplane's left engine separated from the wing during takeoff and subsequently rolled the aircraft over.

This was just one of several accidents to plague the DC-10 in the 1970's.
